I never knew Ghetto Hikes was such a hated blog
This post is in reference to the Ghetto Hikes Tumblr.
My initial reaction when reading the tweets were, “Oh my God this is hilarious”… because I either know, or knew kids just like that. Shit, I was probably one of those kids 20 years ago in certain ways.
But after reading my reblog comments, a lot of folks despise the blog and think its racist. I shouldn’t be surprised but I’m actually kind of surprised. Most of the people I see crying racism aren’t even black. I guess that can be taken as a sign of progress………. or overcompensation. I personally think its the latter, but I’m not going to force my opinion down your throat.
I think there’s a ton of humor involved when someone from one way of life is introduced into a totally different experience and has to learn a new environment. It’s a breeding ground for comedy gold.
Don’t believe me?
Just think about the first time your parents got on the internet and all the different comments they made to you, or all of the questions they asked.
“A window just popped up and it says I just won 2 million dollars, oh shit!!”
“Some guy in Nigeria says he wants to share his fortune with me”
“I heard you can talk to anyone on the internet, can I talk to Oprah on webcam?”
At its very core, Ghetto Hikes is about capturing those kind of moments.
